The course is aimed at professional drivers to ensure they understand the importance of planning, lifting procedures, driver and company issues, as well as personal health and wellbeing.

Course Content

Welcome and Introduction

Ice breaking, introduction and objectives of the course, fair processing notice, day’s activities including course timetable, Health & Safety Briefing & Establishing pre-existing knowledge of trainees.

Healthy living for Drivers 

  • Discuss implications of different driver hours regimes and how they affect a healthy diet regime 

  • Discuss the potential impact on drivers’ health and in particular in respect of type 2 diabetes

  • The effects that diet, and in particular alcohol, can have on driver wellbeing and performance.

Efficient Driving to include geo tunnelling and satellite navigation 

  • Geo tunnelling, correct use of satellite navigation

  • Discuss how efficient driving is beneficial to vehicle, driver and operator

Traffic Signs

  • Presentation on “know your traffic signs” and how the highway code has evolved

  • Discuss Vulnerable Road Users 

  • Discuss traffic restrictions and generally understanding signage and interpreting, plus its uniqueness to PCV and LGV drivers

  • The importance of adhering to different types of signs i.e.Height restrictions, weight restrictions and width restrictions.

Duration

The course is classroom based and taught via Powerpoint Presentation, video and discussion. It will count as 7 hours towards Driver CPC Training.
